A Microcosm within Fortified City Walls

Nowadays, Old San Juan is a fun, self-contained community, a microcosm within the historic city walls. It is located at the westernmost tip of the Isle of San Juan, literally a 3-square mile island off the mainland. The isle is reached by crossing over bridges or by water. The geography casts a sense of local identity, as if crossing over a border.

Here, you can find everything within walking distance. You mention it: music, art, film, the best chocolate, spectacular coffee shops, top restaurants, local craft brewers, theater, poetry readings, fancy cocktails and happy hours! You don’t have to leave the old city walls behind to get a full experience. Because sanjuaneros are fiercely proud and protective of their cultural heritage and territory, you could say “Passport is Almost Required.”
